The Lagos State Government has announced that it will implement a temporary traffic diversion plan along Osborne Road in Ikoyi, Eti-Osa Local Government Area, for a period of two days to allow for critical road works and maintenance activities. The diversion will take effect from Friday, August 15, through Sunday, August 17, 2025, and is aimed at ensuring safety, minimizing congestion, and speeding up the ongoing infrastructure improvements
in the area.
In a statement issued by the Lagos State Ministry of Transportation, the government explained that Osborne Road is a vital link between Ikoyi and other parts of Lagos Island, with a high daily traffic volume that makes it crucial to coordinate such activities carefully. Officials noted that the scheduled work would focus on both routine maintenance and specific repairs to improve road quality, drainage systems, and pedestrian safety.
The diversion plan will see vehicles redirected to alternative routes, including Alfred Rewane Road, Bourdillon Road, and parts of Gerrard Road, depending on the direction of travel. Traffic management officers, Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) officials, and other enforcement agencies will be stationed at strategic points to guide motorists and ensure that the flow of traffic remains as smooth as possible.
“We are appealing to all road users to bear with us during this short period. The work being done on Osborne Road will greatly enhance travel time, safety, and road durability once completed. Our aim is to carry out these repairs with minimal disruption to daily activities, which is why we have chosen a short diversion window,” the Ministry stated.
The government also issued a reminder to commercial vehicle operators, private motorists, and ride-hailing service drivers to plan their movements ahead of time, allow extra travel time for possible delays, and strictly adhere to all traffic instructions from officers on duty.
Residents and business owners in Ikoyi are being encouraged to temporarily adjust delivery schedules and work-related movements to avoid peak traffic hours during the diversion period.
